Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá is one of the advocations with which the Virgin Mary is venerated in Catholicism . Queen and patron of the Republic of Colombia . It is named after the municipality of Chiquinquirá, where the first of its miraculous manifestations took place. 1 This canvas is lowered from its throne, during the Marian jubilee year, which is every seven years, to parade in procession through the streets of the city.
In Colombia, on July 3, 1986, Pope Saint John Paul II visited the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá and prayed for peace in Colombia at the feet of the Virgin Mary. 2 On July 9, 1999, the canvas visited the city of Bogotá to preside over the prayer for peace. In August and September 2017, it did so again on the occasion of the visit of Pope Francis to Colombia. 3
In Venezuela, her image appears vividly in the Basilica of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá (Maracaibo) where thousands of pilgrims flock, not only on the day of her patronal feast on November 18, but every Sunday, when masses are celebrated, followed by enthusiastic processions. In addition, she is the patron saint of the State of Zulia , the municipality of Maracaibo and the Bolivarian National Guard , a component of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB).
